Here are some of the NYCCC frequently asked questions
General
All children and youth between 12-30 years old who have ties to the Nordics. This could include (but is not limited to) being from a Nordic country, currently living or doing a study exchange here. Moreover, if you have an interest in learning more about climate change and climate policy.
You can only apply as an individual. However, we understand that you might want to travel together with a friend. If you are planning to attend with a friend please indicate this in the application.
We aim to get back to everyone who applied within one week after the last application day to give you sufficient time to arrange travel and other logistics related to NYCCC.
Selected participants for NYCCC will get free attendance, breakfast and meals during conference hours, accommodation provided for participants not based nearby, and travel stipend for those travelling to Stockholm. The amount varies by participant's location of origin.
The location for this years edition is Stockhom, Sweden. The venue is easily accessible by public transport and is located just outside of the city center.
You can travel to Stockholm by train from Copenhagen, Oslo and northern Sweden. There are ferries from both Helsinki and Turku. If you need to fly Arlanda airport has great connections to most major airports in the Nordic.
There will be workshops on topics such as Just Transition, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and Nordic youth cooperation. Moreover, the drafting of a Nordic Youth Statement ahead of COP30 to be presented to negotiators from Nordic countries. There will be also networking opportunities and social events. Connect with like-minded youth and make new friends!
UNFCCC stands for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change. It is the UN body where countries negotiation about different thematic related to climate change like adaptation, climate finance, loss and damage. The most know meeting of the UNFCCC is the yearly COP meeting. The next one is COP30 which will happen in Brazil later this year.
NYS stands for the Nordic Youth Statement. It is a position paper which will be created leading up to and during NYCCC and will preset the depends of Nordic children and youth at COP30.
No, the UNFCCC can be an intimidating area to start to engage in as a young person. That is one of the reasons that we are hosting NYCCC. We want all to create a platform for Nordic children and youth to gain the knowledge on how to engage in climate policy and how we can work together.
The only thing you need to apply is an interest to learn more. There will also be several events which are not focused on the UNFCCC so there will be something for everyone.
